Alexandra Drive

The aim of this project was to sensitively bring this historic property back to life.

The large 3-storey Victorian villa lies within a Conservation Area of South Liverpool. This once impressive merchants house had been unloved for many years, so restoring the key features of the original villa and replacing previous poor quality additions were crucial.

The design includes a modern but sympathetically designed high-quality extension, whilst respecting the character & appearance of the existing building. Light filled spaces were also a priority due to previous poor quality extensions from the 80s.

Our original approach to this was to create an internal courtyard within the new build element. This would provide both daylight and natural ventilation. As would the cantilevered windows on the North & South sides of the building, adding additional floor space and privacy for neighbours.

This project also required the need for the care & consideration of the surrounding green space & landscaping. A full Arboricultural Impact Assessment was required to make sure that existing & new trees would be of significant merit & highly desirable in the urban setting, delivering a biodiversity benefit to the site.
